J's Random Review!!!

So, I'm going to try something different to get me back into the habit of blogging! Prepare for... SUPER RAPID CRAPPY SUBJECTIVE RANDOM REVIEW ATTACK! *kamehamehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*

*cough* So...

Robert Downey Jnr. - Brilliant as both Holmes and Stark
1) Iron Man 2: Brilliant effects, quite funny and Robert Downey Jnr. is as brilliant as ever, though it did feel at points like it served simply as a lead up to the Avengers movie... however - Mickey Rourke was amazing! Best scene: Rourke showing us some whip action and slicing up the TV *nods* Ultimately, not as good as the first movie, but still a good sequel.

2) Bram Stoker's Dracula: Firstly, the book - still yet to finish it, but obviously a classic and a brilliant read, and probably needed for any prospective A2 English students! Secondly, the 1992 film - hmmm, well, Gary Oldman once again proves that he is both a chameleon and a brilliant actor, as he really does make the film. It's probably one of the more loyal adaptions of the book, despite the addition of an entirely new sub-plot. Keanu Reeves is as wooden as ever, even in the sexy scenes, whilst Hopkins is also great and the casting of Tom Waits, of all people, as the psychopath Renfield is inspired!

3) Mary Shelly's Frankenstein: Yet to even start reading, but it's relatively short, which is never a bad thing, so... top marks!

“It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you place the blame.”

So, myself and my sister have an obsession with retro video games. Especially Super Nintendo games. So much so that our playing of them is occupying so much of my time that I'm unable to write a substantial post. So I decided to share with you guys some of my classy geekery, just in case anyone out there is alien to these LIFE ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES! So, here's J's personal top ten retro games! (Retro being pre-N64/PS1/DC by my definition)

10) Mario Paint

9) The 7th Guest (bit of a cult game, highly recommended)

8) Super Mario Kart

7) Sonic The Hedgehog

6) Final Fantasy VI

Dr. Watson, I presume...

Hi all, 'tis J here. Firstly, for those of you who may like the length and depth of some of my previous posts, then I'm sorry to say that this is likely to disappoint. However, as I'm sure that most who read this blog will, like the readers of most other blogs, probably enjoy posts with greater brevity, as C quite rightly pointed out, then this should do. So, whilst I will continue to post more in-depth and pseudo-intellectual/pretentious entries with large word counts, I am also going to endeavour to make short posts more regularly. Secondly, sorry for the awful pun in the post’s title. XD

Soooo... Ah yes, Steven Moffat. He's great. He co-wrote some of the Tennant (or rather "Ten-inch" hehe) era Dr. Who, is the main writer for Smith's series and now his modern realisation of Sherlock Holmes has at last been unveiled in the first chapter of a tripartite mini-series. Having been raised on the classic Conan Doyle tales and some of the older (and quite good) TV series, I was very much looking forward to a new interpretation. I had very much enjoyed the recent film, but I did feel that, whilst in many aspects it did actually stay truthful to the original stories, it was very... Hollywood (but I do so love Robert Downey Jnr. <3).

“It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.”

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the lack of posting, and would like to thank dear C for taking the initiative. Ideas have been circulating in my head, but unfortunately life has conspired to distract me. I felt inspired by C’s post, and so I’m going to continue in the same vein… I will most likely end up arguing against, agreeing with, extrapolating on and mis- and or re-interpreting the various points C made, so as to continue with the idea of “debatable’s”. Anyhow, I hope our views on such things can maybe give somebody out there something to think about, even if only for a moment. (I also wish that M would write something already – in fact, I wish he’d bloody well get in touch…). (Picture belongs to illbewaiting.deviantart.com I guess)

I would say, just in case there is anyone out there reading this that doesn’t have a homosexual pre-disposition to any extent, (which I suppose is unlikely given that our audience is probably mainly comprised of people from ‘MB’) that… well, I wouldn’t take C’s advice of finding out about ‘MB’ for yourself. I know that for the majority of people out there who are not gay, even considering homosexual acts can be perturbing, and as ‘MB’ is quite overt in many ways, there’d be no need to take a look at something that’s just going to make you feel uncomfortable. Thus I would disagree with C’s thought that “if you don't like it, you're a fool”, as I’m aware for some that it would simply be impossible to like. I do think it’s a pity that, whilst most gay people aren’t repulsed by the idea of heterosexual intercourse, most straight people can’t get their heads around same-sex sexual relations – that’s not to say they don’t accept homosexual relations, just that they can’t understand the attraction.

It's Never Enough...

Hey guys. I would just like to point out that this post is sort of... unconventional. This is not actually something I had intended to write on the blog, but is rather something I was asked to write by a friend for a student publication at our school. It is supposed to be a piece of "Gonzo journalism" i.e. highly opinionated, subjective, and focussing on style to the detriment of accuracy. I was limited to a word count of 350 (which I've actually ended up exceeding XD) and as such it seems a bit... undeveloped to me... but oh well. The theme of the article was the phrase "It's Never Enough...", but I did attempt to bring in some ideas that had been circulating in my head before being presented with the task. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and anyone that can get the film and song reference wins a fabulous prize! Enjoy :D

For some, it’s not enough that others have their own unique opinions and thoughts. Such people may be more pre-occupied with a person's appearance or popularity. Others may simply be egotists, elitists, and thus refuse to accept the views of others. Some may even be idiots who simply fail to understand the way different people view the world and as such may fear and even persecute them. These people, the shallow, the arrogant, the ignorant… these people are lacking. They have little substance, and thus they are not enough. These are the blinkered. It is unfortunate then that we all exhibit traits such as these to varying degrees. Suffice it to say, humanity is small-minded, not worthy of being dubbed humane. Yet perhaps it is insufficient for a human to make such a claim…

Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself?

I decided to take a brake from the Wilde quotes and take the title from a rather different yet, in my eyes, nonetheless brilliant lyricist. The quote is from the Neil Young song "Tell me why?", which in itself would also make quite an apt title given this post's subject.
For years now, I've been telling myself that "I am going to do certain things and achieve certain goals in this specific period of time", all the while convincing myself that what I'm saying is true as I apparently believe on some level that I have the kind of self-will and work ethic that will allow me to do so. The truth of the matter is that in actuality I do not, and I've known this for quite some time, and yet every time I want to achieve something I convince myself that it will be different from the last time. I tell myself that, in spite of the past, this time I will succeed, but I very rarely do. Evidently, I find it hard to keep promises that I make to myself.

Work is the refuge of people who have nothing better to do

Haha, I do love my Wilde quotes!

I find myself in an unconventional and sort of uncomfortable situation, and its due both to my laziness and the ever so uncanny timing of mother nature to throw a hissy fit. You see, I live on a small island isolated from normal civilisation (I'll post some pictures of this in future) and the only method of transport available for me to get to mainland Britain - where myself, M and C attend boarding school - is by plane. And even though the tiny sixteen seater's that would normally carry me on this voyage fly well bellow the level at which the volcanic ash (from an eruption in Iceland for those who haven't heard) initially lingered, we residents of this forsaken isle were unable to depart as all the airports in Britain were closed for business.

It requires one to assume such indecent postures...

Looking pretty good there Shahrukh... Bosch XD

Anyways, before I get under way creating stunning pieces of artwork, I thought I'd introduce you to one of my interests, as I feel that we should start doing that. So, yeah, I'm a cricket fan, and proud of it! Say what you will, but to me cricket is an ever so majestic sport. The technique, the motions, the tension, the occasional acrobatic feats, the strategy, the interplay, the mental and physical struggle, the intricate choreography of the whole thing, and the epic nature of the game just make it so very appealing! Someone once quipped that they could not understand how someone could like a sport were you could play for five days and yet come out of it with a draw. Yet that's the thing that makes it so amazing; the potential for amazing climaxes and anti climaxes, for tense finishes that can go down to the last delivery or fabulous romps to glory by a fifth wicket partnership.

The real me...

Admittedly nowhere near as beautiful as Jack Vessalius, but not too bad... right? *stares around hopefully*

p.s. Well, M is clearly captivated by my looks (notice how he's staring up at me) so I am reassured XD
ALSO... as C plugged one of his friends, I figured I'd do the same for one of mine... not that he needs it, he's already like amazingly famous XD

Behold my beauty...

So yeah, this is me, J... don't I look dashing?
Haha, I jest, that's actually Jack Vessalius/Bezarius, from my favourite anime Pandora Hearts. (Image belongs to Square Enix I guess ^ ^)

J

On The Birth Of A Blog...

You love not my name, for loving you lack
Thy heart I never had, though my name is...
Haha, you may know me simply as J,
And you should also know that I am gay,
I hope that you believe me when I say
This is not my best work of poetry!

So here we are, these intellectuals three,
Though don't expect much, for hopeless we be,
Yet you may find that we have some insight,
And that we don't always chat complete shite,
So you may wish to read that which we have to write!
