*cough* So...
Robert Downey Jnr. - Brilliant as both Holmes and Stark |
2) Bram Stoker's Dracula: Firstly, the book - still yet to finish it, but obviously a classic and a brilliant read, and probably needed for any prospective A2 English students! Secondly, the 1992 film - hmmm, well, Gary Oldman once again proves that he is both a chameleon and a brilliant actor, as he really does make the film. It's probably one of the more loyal adaptions of the book, despite the addition of an entirely new sub-plot. Keanu Reeves is as wooden as ever, even in the sexy scenes, whilst Hopkins is also great and the casting of Tom Waits, of all people, as the psychopath Renfield is inspired!
3) Mary Shelly's Frankenstein: Yet to even start reading, but it's relatively short, which is never a bad thing, so... top marks!
6) Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: I don't care what people say about Master Quest or Majora's Mask... THIS IS THE HARDEST ZELDA GAME EVER... IF NOT THE HARDEST GAME IN GENERAL!!!! GRRRR!!!!
*cough*
7) Um... Oh... Hmmm... Oh, well, in the end, Sherlock was absolutely amazing, so I can't wait for the next series!
8) In its wake comes another three part detective series, though this one's a comedy, and quite a funny one in a strange kind of way: Vexed. Still two parts to go, but the beginning was definitely promising.
9) And finally... a re-viewing of, or another look at, the work of Morrissey. Whilst I'd always recognised that he was quite a good song writer and very influential, especially when working with Marr in the Smiths, I'd never given much of his work a chance becuase I couldn't stand his voice. However, after a discussion with a friend I decided to go back and give the material the listen it deserves, and I have to say it's definitely growing on me! :)
And that's all for now loyal followers.
Laters people xxx

GRRRRRR... |
A veritable flood of pent-up reviews!? Well at least for the Morrissey bit, I'm glad you decided to give him another go. His solo works aren't as quite as consistent as with the Smiths, but there are the occasional gems ofc.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Sherlock the series to the films, but one can never get enough Sherlock Holmes, in my way of thinking. I think the same goes for beautiful bishonen boys, so I'll have to check out those anime/manga series. ^^
Thanks for the review of Iron Man II. I'm defs going to get it. Iron Man, the original, is my favourite and IMHO, the most authentic re-creation of a comic book brought to screen yet. The second best recreation, again IMHO, is HellBoy, both movies. It's the humour in these movies that I think makes them work the best for me.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sherlock the series; at first I thought you were talking about Sherlock Holmes the Granada production, which ran on PBS Buffalo-Toronto the last couple of years. The ones with Jeremy Brett, which I thoroughly enjoyed. (I have a thing for Victorian England). Those, I thought were very well done indeed. I especially liked the few episodes in which Holmes was openly using the 7 per cent solution! By self injection!!
But Google tells me that you must be referring to the contemporary 'Sherlock',the BBC-WGBH series which has yet to run on PBS in Buffalo. It will be interesting to see how the characters play out in modern day London.
I'm with Kobalt about not being able to get enough of Sherlock Holmes!
As for 'Zelda II: The Adventure of Link' unfortunately I was a SEGA Genesis child. (We SEGA boys would barely speak to Nintendo boys, haha) My first SEGA game was 'Shining Force' and amazingly deep turn based RPG. I still play it on PC today. But I'll take your word on Zelda however. From the Game Mags that I collected back then I know teh Zelda series always got good ratings.
Fruits Basket I'll defs check out. Sounds intriguing. Thanks J.
I'm really glad you guys are thinking of checking the animes out... the thing I always find is that someone recommends an anime to me, I watch it and I always like it (though they're usually the ones with less fighting, gore etc.) so maybe I'm not actually a great critic when it comes to anime? Meh XD
ReplyDeleteAs far as comic book movies go, I agree with Allen's appraisals of Iron Man and Hellboy (though I disliked the sequal), and I also enjoy V for Vendetta and the the Tim Burton Batman films very much. Though in all honesty, the Nolan Batman films are quite simply some of my favourite films ever.
And those series with Brett were fantastic, and he was certainly my favourite Sherlock... until Benedict Cumberbatch came along that is! I hope you love the new series Allen, it's brilliant!
And I've played Shining Force (though not very much, or very well). In fact, I think it's available to purchase on the Wii Virtual Console! I may just do that... And surely you've played at least one Zelda game, surely!? XD

lolSega! XD
ReplyDeleteIt's dangerous to go alone! Take this.
Allen receives kitteh!
I agree that Iron Man was the best as far as Marvel superhero films go. T's already seen IM2, and I'm not sure I can get him to see it again. But the Nolan Batman is easily the best superhero film series ev0r! V for Vendetta is most deffo up there too.
Dude, there's no need to wait for PBS or BBC America to get around to airing all the latest Britastic shows. I couldn't live without uknova.com, it's even faster than iPlayer. Needless to say, once Dr. Who, Torchwood, and Sherlock start up again, there's no way I'm waiting weeks/months to find out what happens.
Re anime: I like the usual action ones, but I do like the many shojo ones as well. So, your recommendations seem to be something I'd be interested in. =)
I just got the mental image of Link swinging a cat at some Octoroks O.O
ReplyDeleteNah, you just set the kitty down and it viciously attacks everything in sight, kinda like the rabbit in Monty Python's Holy Grail. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThe Nolman Batman series IS brilliant, but I enjoyed, and still do, Batman Begins over the Dark Knight. I think for me the hype just got too out of hand because of the untimely death of Heath Ledger. I was expecting too much and it didn't quite deliver for me. I know it did for you J, and hundreds of millions of other fans.
ReplyDeleteI will add it to my collection at some point. Probably around the time I get the memories of the viral Christain Bale rant out of my head. LOL.
Kobalt, thanks, for the tip about uknova.com. And thanks for the kitteh too. Link is about to have his eyes scratched out XD
NO! DON'T HURT LINK! ARGH!
ReplyDelete(I loves him very muchly) xxx
It attacks everything in sight EXCEPT LINK!! I rather thought that bit was implied tbh. XD Kitteh loves his Link. <3
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought Heath's untimely death added a disturbingly dark layer on top of his already brilliant performance.
He was like a scary Jack Lemmon on acid... I liked Jack Nicholson, but next to Ledger he seems insignificant.
ReplyDeleteI think Link should so have a cat in the next Zelda, instead of a horse... or a rooster (that looks like a duck)... or a talking boat... XD
Heath's performance was absolutely riveting, by far overshadowing, Bale. I could not get him out of my head, therefore relished every moment he was on screen. This may be the reason that I thought the movie was a minor fail. I assume J and K that you saw the first movie prior to The Dark Night.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to Link. He's Linkburger meat by now after I ran mah new attack kitteh through SEGA land. (That would be a romp with Sonic) haha
